CWU NI Telecom Branch - Ukraine | What we're doing to help
Mar 25, 2022
To all CWU Members in Northern Ireland
Recent events in Ukraine have shocked us all in recent weeks. The indiscriminate bombing of innocent men, women and children in their own country for the crime of free thinking and to satisfy the ego of a despot beggars belief. Nightly images of cities being pounded relentlessly in order to elicit a submission to tyranny have evoked a response from humanity and your local CWU NI Branch has taken a decision to be part of that response
We had already received numerous requests for various Organisations and Charities for donations to aid the People of Ukraine and we have decide as a Branch Committee to make one single Donation, and that donation to go to the CWU's own Charity which is CWUHA. Details of the Charity can be found here:- https://www.cwuha.org/
To give you some background, due to the Pandemic, we have not had the outgoings we normally would have had for the past 2 years which has meant we now have the means to make a generous one off Donation to aid the people of Ukraine . We therefore met recently as a Committee and decided to make a Donation of £10,000 and we wanted to advise you all of our decision. This amount equates to £4.50 per member.
We have always supported our own local Charites over the years and will continue to do so in the future. We have supported for example the Marie Curie Hospice, Pips Newry, Foyle Food Bank, Ballymena Women's Aid, Cash for Kids, Salvation Army, Enniskillen Food Bank, St Vincent de Paul, to name a few. This one off donation to aid the people of Ukraine however is we believe the right thing to do and the right amount.
If you want to make a donation yourself to the CWUHA you can do so via this link:-www.justgiving.com/campaign/cwuhaUkraineAppeal/
If you want to know of the response so far to the CWUHA's Appeal this can be done via:- https://www.cwuha.org/cwuha-ukraine-appeal/
Your comments however are welcome and we can be contacted on branchhousekeeping@btinternet.com if needs be.
Regards
CWU NI Telecom Branch Committee
