We Closed the Gap!

The CWU’s Close the Gap campaign has now fulfilled its objective within BT – good cause for a two week ‘Victory Tour’ which commenced in Leicester on October 1 and concluded in Gosforth on Tuesday (October 9).

Preparing for recognition at EE

EE recently publicly committed to talks that are expected to lead to the signing of a voluntary recognition agreement by Christmas. Preparation is underway within the CWU to build a roadmap to and beyond the achievement of full collective bargaining rights. Union recognition in EE will mean a huge step forward for workers and is long overdue. Read more

The CWU has secured an innovative partnership with distance learning provider The Skills Network to expand the selection of training, development and education opportunities available to members.

CWU members can now take nationally recognised level 2 qualifications in subjects such as health and social care, childcare and education, business and leadership, retail and hospitality, and public services.

LTB 539/18 – Lyme Disease and Tick Bites – Public Health England Warning – Steep Rise in Case Numbers

Public Health England has published worrying figures indicating a steep rise in Lyme disease cases showing a 35% rise in confirmed cases over last year. Read more

LTB 552/18 – Breast Cancer Awareness Month – October 2018

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Did you know Breast Cancer is the most common cancer in the UK?

The three main risk factors for breast cancer:

Being a woman – over 99% of new cases of breast cancer are in women.
Getting older – more than 80% of breast cancers occur in women over the age of 50. Most men who get breast cancer are over 60.
Significant family history – this isn’t common, around 5% of people diagnosed with breast cancer have inherited a faulty BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene.
