CWU Response to Enniskillen announcement

We were all left shocked and stunned last Thursday 8th February by the unexpected announcement that the company was considering closing the Enniskillen Site after over 30 years of existence.

Many people will have had long years of employment with the company and have only known BT (EE) as their employer. Work/Life balances have being built up by all around shift patterns and flexi leave and it will be devastating to many of us as we contemplate a life without secure employment and routine.

The CWU National Team have agreed to come to Enniskillen this Tuesday 13th Feb and will be here in the centre that afternoon to meet you, our Members.

Further, we will have a meeting on Tuesday 13 at 19:00 for Everyone who works in the centre in the Westville Hotel. All are welcome and Tea and Coffee will be available on the night.

Please see the link below, from the CWU website, which details the Enniskillen announcement. Please note in particular our Deputy General secretary- elect response:

“Deputy General Secretary-elect Karen Rose and national officer Stephen Albon will meet members next week, as well as Enniskillen’s MP and Northern Ireland Assembly Members, to discuss the crisis and work together in a determined effort to save jobs.”

CWU: CWU bid to save 300 local jobs at BT Enniskillen after shock announcement

Our Commitment to you our members is to try and turn this around and secure your Jobs. We also need the company to engage with us ASAP to work together to resolve this issue. The company’s stance at the moment is:

“When, and if, we have a proposal for a specific exit date we will consult with colleagues and the unions in line with our usual procedures at the appropriate time. This is likely to be later this year.”

We however are asking for immediate talks with the company. As Karen states “We’re going to do everything we can to make the strongest possible case to BT Group to urge them to keep jobs in Enniskillen. It’s right for our members, right for the community and the right decision for the company too.”

Weneed you to show the company your strength and determination by attending the meeting on Tuesday.

Stand together and stay strong.
